The Miami Indians once called vast swaths of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois their home. Today, the descendants of the tribe, including myself, are scattered all over the United States.

Chief Little Turtle, a war leader of the Miami Indians, crossed the Mississinewa River while rounding up support for a battle with General Josiah Harmar, later to be called Harmar’s Defeat, in 1790.

In the 21st Century, this site is the transition point between public land and the only sacred land in Miami County that the Miamis could repatriate from the U.S. government.
